It’s obvious from my first post about this gib that folks aren’t understanding what I’m doing. The shim I’m making will be glued onto the static (non-moving) side of the gib. This is to add some thickess to the gib and get the adjustment screw back into the range where the gib can be properly adjusted to eliminate backlash (side to side movement).
