You might not expect to find a French Colonial fort tucked away along the back roads of southern Illinois, but Fort de Chartres is a must see! 🇫🇷 The French constructed three forts in the area in the 1700s. The remains of the third fort have been rebuilt into Fort de Chartres State Historic Site.
