The NBA basketball season is underway and we here at the Sacramento History Museum are, of course, rooting for the home team! It has been a rough season so far but Alex letterpress printed something for the @Sacramento Kings who are on a 3 game win streak! We had to get out some large wood type that was made in the late 1880s by the Hamilton Wood Type Company for this occasion. The typeface is French Clarendon. The text reads “GO KINGS LIGHT THE BEAM!” The beam appears over the Golden 1 Center w

March 14th is Pi Day! Pi (3.1415926…) is the name given to the ratio of the circumference of a circle to the diameter. In honor of Pi Day, Howard letterpress printed “3.14” (pi) in 30 line pica (5 inches in length) wood type in the French Clarendon typeface. This wood type was made in the late 1880s by the Hamilton Wood Type Company. This was printed with black rubber base ink using our Washington hand press. #SacHistoryMuseum #PiDay #printing #sacramento #learnontiktok

There is a new 6 part documentary called “The American Revolution” by Ken Burns premiering on PBS on November 16th at 8pm! Because the printing press was such a vital part of mass communication at the time of the Revolution, we here in the print shop at the Sacramento History Museum are inspired to use the same style of printing of the era to get the word out about the program. In this video, Jared discussed the program and letterpress printed “The American Revolution by Ken Burns November 16, 2

We’ve been posting lately using multiple ink colors while printing in the shop at the Sacramento History Museum. In this video, Jared letterpress prints a phrase about museums showing that 6 ink colors. The phrase “Museums are not neutral.” was letterpress printed with red, orange, yellow, green, blue, and purple ink using our Washington hand press. The wood type used is 15 line pica in size and the typeface is French Clarendon. Our museum, like all museums, is not neutral. People often argue th
