The gales of November came early on this day 50 years ago, in one of the worst storms Lake Superior has ever known. Through Gordon Lightfoot’s historical account, the legend lives on from the Chippewa on down of the big lake they call Gitche Gumee, taking the 29 lives of Captain and crew aboard the bulk carrier, the SS Edmund Fitzgerald. (November 10th, 1975). Lightfoot’s song “The Wreck of the Edmund Fitzgerald” was written in memory of the crew members. Released in 1976, the song will continue
