NASA and SpaceX launched a crewed mission to the International Space Station to bring home astronauts Sunita Williams and Butch Wilmore.

NASA astronauts Sunita Williams and Barry ‘Butch’ Wilmore are set to return to Earth after nearly nine months on the International Space Station (ISS). Their original mission was intended to last just eight days but was extended due to technical issues with Boeing’s Starliner spacecraft.

Nilesh M. Desai, explained that crew missions to the International Space Station (ISS) are sent every six months under NASA's program. While NASA regularly sends cargo missions, only crew missions include provisions for bringing astronauts back to Earth.

The International Space Station (ISS) is almost the size of a football field. It serves as a laboratory and living space for astronauts, including Sunita Williams and Butch Wilmore, who spent 9 months aboard stranded.

The crew-swap mission will enable NASA’s Butch Wilmore and Suni Williams to return to Earth from the International Space Station.
