President Donald Trump’s foreign envoy Steve Witkoff — one of three American participants in Friday’s summit with Russian President Vladimir Putin — described on Sunday several major agreements reached during the Alaska talks that he said created strong momentum toward a peace agreement with Ukraine.
Secretary of State Rubio said Trump's position on the war in Ukraine hasn't changed after Friday's summit with Putin and that Ukraine must be involved in peace talks.
Secretary of State Marco Rubio admitted there would likely need to be some mutual concession of land from Ukraine to Russia in order for a peace agreement to be reached, however Ukrainians find it hard to support such a notion.
The US president will meet his Ukrainian counterpart in Washington on Monday in the wake of his Alaska summit with Vladimir Putin on Friday.
"If President Trump were the architect of that, I'd nominate him" for the honor, the former U.S. secretary of state said.
Trump and Clinton, who ran against each other in the 2016 presidential election, have maintained a contentious relationship in the years since.
