The director behind the controversial 1991 political thriller 'JFK' was appearing before the House Oversight and Government Reform Committee’s Task Force on the Declassification of Federal Secrets.

"I may have misinterpreted that, and I apologize for that," the congresswoman said after being informed of her error.

Lauren Boebert made the error when speaking at a congressional hearing on Tuesday about the assassination of John F. Kennedy.

Oliver Stone's "JFK" was nominated for eight Oscars and grossed more than $200 million but was also dogged by questions about its historical accuracy.
