Former New York Governor Andrew Cuomo conceded to the upstart Democratic socialist and New York State Assemblyman Zohran Mamdani on Tuesday night, while votes were still being tallied in the first round of voting in New York City's Democratic mayoral primary race.

Andrew Cuomo’s concession came as the race’s outcome will be decided by a ranked choice count after neither Democrat got a clear majority in the vote.

The 33-year-old Democratic Socialist lawmaker outpaced the ex-governor, who has conceded, in a stunning primary, signaling generational change in the Democratic Party.
