Kilmar Abrego Garcia was taken to El Salvador on March 15 because of what the Trump administration has called an "administrative error."

A federal judge ruled that the Trump administration must bring Kilmar Armando Abrego Garcia back to the United States after being mistakenly deported to El Salvador last month.

The White House acknowledged Kilmar Armando Abrego Garcia was deported in error, but the government is reluctant to try to get him back.

While acknowledging that Abrego Garcia was deported because of an administrative mistake, DOJ lawyers stated in court papers that he is part of the criminal gang MS-13.
