The largely peaceful protests during the "No Kings Day" demonstration in downtown Los Angeles took an intense turn in the afternoon. Police ordered the crowd to disperse at about 4:15 p.m. PDT near Alameda Street and Temple Avenue, according to the Los Angeles Police Department's Central Division.

"No Kings" rallies brought demonstrators together, joining voices across the nation and region to protest what they call a growing threat of authoritarianism in American politics.

The ‘No Kings’ rally held outside of Highland Park City Hall on June 14 gathered 3,000 for a peaceful protest on Saturday, organizers said.

The county's sheriff had made incendiary remarks about police response should any violence occur. But nothing happened.

Across the country, relatively few disruptions were reported during protests and marches where the mood ranged from joyful to defiant.

Thousands turned out in Columbia, Jefferson City and dozens of towns across Missouri on Saturday to join a nationwide mobilization against the expansion of executive power by the president.

Police were notified by members of the public that an individual was concealing a firearm and walking along High Street. Officers identified the suspect and quickly conducted a pedestrian stop.

The arrests are in addition to three arrests made by APD. Police said the event was largely peaceful "with the exception of a small number of agitators."
