Cole Tomas Allen, a 31-year-old teacher from Torrance, was identified by federal law enforcement sources as the alleged gunman. In a manifesto reportedly written by the suspect, Allen allegedly wrote about how notably lax security was at the White House Correspondents’ Assn.
According to his account, multiple officers were stationed outside the area, and he was asked to wait before being allowed access. Even after returning, the situation remained unchanged.
The suspected gunman who charged past a security checkpoint at the White House Correspondents’ Dinner has renewed questions about Secret Service protocol.
"No damn security. Not in transport. Not in the hotel. Not in the event," he wrote, alleging he noticed a "sense of arrogance" about the security situation when he arrived at the Washington Hilton on Saturday.
In March, the pop in gas prices for the month was 21% -- the largest jump since 1967, when the Bureau of Labor Statistics began measuring it. That jump helped push up the overall increase in consumer prices by 3.3% year over year for March -- and by nearly a whole percentage point from February to March, the biggest such jump in several years.
