Defense Secretary Hegseth has signed an order allowing Guard troops in D.C. to be armed. The authority is expected to be acted upon in coming days.

D.C., which includes members of the National Guard from D.C. and six states involved in President Donald Trump’s deployment to the capital, are affected.

Trump deployed the National Guard in the city as part of his efforts to federalize Washington’s police operations.
