Juneteenth is right around the corner -- and San Diego is chock-full of events and ways to celebrate and honor the holiday.

San Diego has several events to celebrate Juneteenth, which commemorates the day in 1865 when enslaved people in Texas learned they had been freed — two years after the Emancipation Proclamation was signed.

Juneteenth will be celebrated across San Diego County on Thursday. Juneteenth, which commemorates the day when around 250,000 enslaved people in Texas learned of their freedom, became a federal holiday in 2021,
