A brush fire was set deliberately so a sniper could ambush firefighters, authorities said.

Wess Roley, 20, was identified as the Idaho shooter by Bob Norris, the sheriff of Kootenai County, which is in northern Idaho just west of Spokane.

The motive for the shooting was not known and Norris did not provide any details on the suspect, saying officers were still working to identify the man.
