Soccer is a sport that has seen exponential growth in the United States in recent years, and FIFA president Gianni Infantino is confident the 2026 World Cup is sure to expedite that growth.

Infantino said he was hoping for Russia's football return as this would signify that the war was over and "everything was solved".

Standing outside Pasadena’s Rose Bowl on Tuesday morning, FIFA President Gianni Infantino feted Los Angeles as one of the host cities for the imminent 2025 FIFA Club World Cup. During the host city trophy tour stop, Infantino acknowledged the recent devastating wildfires that engulfed the nearby Altadena and Palos Verdes neighborhoods.

On Thursday, the U.S. Soccer Federation learned its intention to host the 2031 FIFA Women’s World Cup would come to fruition. FIFA held its annual UEFA Congress that the United States and “Concacaf partners” were the sole bid for the 2031 tournament.

The Athletic has previously reported that the U.S.-Mexico bid is exploring staging games in Costa Rica and Jamaica.
