American Alysa Liu won gold in women's figure skating, becoming the first American woman to do so since 2002.

Early in the second, Canada took the lead when Kristin O'Neill scored a short-handed breakaway, marking the first time Team USA was trailing in the entire tournament.

Sidney Crosby suffered a lower-body injury during the quarterfinals against Czechia, which caused him to limp off to the bench, exit through the tunnel, and not return for the rest of the game.
