The waning days of 2021 introduced us to a new genre of tweet: Green, yellow, and grey boxes arranged in a 5-wide grid with as many as six rows. The tweets also include some indecipherable-to-outsiders numbers and a funny, little non-word: Wordle.

Wordle is the daily game that has kept the world addicted since it first went public in 2021. Millions of people share their results with friends and family and even on social media, either boasting or lamenting how many turns it took them to solve.

There are dozens of Wordle alternatives out there that make you guess to find a daily answer, like Heardle, Redactle, Cloudle, and Quordle.

Wordle's adaptation is not set in stone, but Deadline said that they "understood that NBC is piloting a game show based on the New York Times game with Savannah Guthrie hosting". Based on NBC's involvement, we can speculate that the show would be available to stream on Peacock.
