Despite the positive update from writer and showrunner Allan Heinberg, The Sandman will most likely not return for a third season on Netflix. Seeing the show’s acclaim and popularity, it is hard to see why The Sandman Season 3 won’t happen,

The Sandman season 2 delivers a conclusive, satisfying end to the story. It doesn’t leave behind a trail of loose ends, but it does leave a few things to the imagination. The big twist in the end is that Morpheus loses his life. After putting his son, Orpheus, out of his misery in the Volume 1 finale, he spilled family blood.

The Sandman Season 2 may have ended with the rise of a new Dream, but the future is far from certain. If Netflix grants us a Season 3, expect a different kind of story from The Sandman Season 2 —one where the Dreaming is still a place of wonder and nightmares, but its god has a new face… and a very human heart.
