Tesla has opened its first showroom in India and customers are lining up to flaunt its Model Y in their driveway. But will Elon Musk’s company manage to snatch a sizable share from incumbents, or will the initial euphoria die down?

Tesla launched on Tuesday its Model Y at about $70,000 in India, a significant markup relative to its other major markets, reflecting the country's high tariffs on electric vehicle imports which CEO Elon Musk has long-criticised.

Beyond the car specs, Tesla cars are known for its cutting-edge automotive technology such as its Autopilot features and Full Self-Driving (FSD) Supervised as well as other unique features such as Bioweapon defence mode.
