Federal Judge Paula Xinis is at the center of the case of a Maryland man mistakenly deported to El Salvador by the Trump administration that has emerged as a critical test of Trump’s aggressive crackdown on immigration in the United States.

PROVIDENCE – U.S. Sen. Jack Reed told a Jamestown town hall he would "absolutely" consider going to El Salvador if it might help his Senate colleague Chris Van Hollen's effort to secure the release of Kilmar Abrego Garcia, the Maryland man wrongfully deported by the Trump administration.

A spokeswoman for the presidency of El Salvador, Wendy Ramos, did not respond to requests for information about Senator Van Hollen’s meeting with Abrego Garcia, including whether he had been returned to the prison where American officials have said he is being held, the Terrorism Confinement Center, or CECOT.
