NEW YORK — Sue Bird is giving another assist to USA Basketball, becoming the managing director of the women’s national team. The five-time Olympic champion was named to the newly created position Thursday and it marks a major change in the way the organization creates its roster and coaching staff.

NEW YORK — Sue Bird is ready to welcome the next generation of American basketball stars to Team USA. Bird, who was announced Thursday as the managing director for the U.S. women’s national team, signaled her openness to bring Caitlin Clark, Paige Bueckers and other American young talent into the fold as she takes on her role.

For years, Sue Bird called the shots on the court as a point guard. Now, the legendary WNBA star will be doing it off the court for USA Basketball.
