Video appearing to be a flaming object flying through the sky in upstate South Carolina has been circulating on social media.
The object, identified as a fireball, "exploded 27 miles above West Forest, Georgia, unleashing an energy of about 20 tons of TNT," per CBS News.
NASA confirmed a meteor entered Earth's atmosphere over Georgia, disintegrating with energy equivalent to 20 tons of TNT.
The fireball is presumed to be from a meteor fragmenting in the sky, according to meteorologists and other experts.
