A 69-year-old woman faces 93 counts of animal cruelty after Merced County Sheriff's deputies found over 100 cats in distress inside a U-Haul.

The cats that were seized from a woman’s U-Haul van in Santa Nella on Sunday will be available for adoption once they “are healthy enough,” officials said. Deputies with the Merced County Sheriff’s Office found 106 emaciated cats in the van in a parking lot on Sunday.

After 14 days, the cats must be medically cleared by a Veterinarian to be available for adoption. Once the cats are healthy enough to be adopted, they will be posted on the Merced County Animal Shelter's webpage,
