Ortega's sudden departure came days after "Love Island USA" viewers resurfaced some of her old social media posts.

During the Sunday, July 6, episode of “Love Island USA,” narrator Iain Stirling announced that Cierra Ortega had left the show due to a “personal situation.” Prior to her shocking exit, many fans called for Ortega’s removal after discovering that she used a slur for Chinese people in several social media posts.

Fellow contestant Belle-A Walker spoke out following Ortega’s exit, writing in an Instagram story Sunday that she is “deeply appreciative of the Love Island USA producers for taking a stand and making it clear that racism of any kind is not tolerated.”
