Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis’ administration has already signed at least $245 million in state contracts to set up and run the new immigration detention center in the Florida Everglades.

State contracts recently shared with Axios show how millions of taxpayer dollars were used to build Alligator Alcatraz, an immigration detention center in the middle of the Everglades, in just eight days.

A state official says the contracts contained "proprietary information," so they were scrubbed and replaced with bare-bones summaries.
