Alpine announced Tuesday that Oliver Oakes resigned from his position as team principal, which was accepted by the team with immediate effect. Flavio Briatore, the team’s executive advisor, will assume Oakes’ responsibilities while continuing his advisory duties.

Oliver Oakes has resigned as principal of Renault-owned Alpine with immediate effect and former boss Flavio Briatore is taking over his duties, the British-based Formula One team said on Tuesday.

British Formula One team principal Oliver Oakes has resigned as team principal of Alpine after just nine months in the role. Oakes, 37, was appointed in August to become the youngest team boss on the F1 grid. But his shock departure comes with rookie driver Jack Doohan widely expected to be replaced by Franco Colapinto after only six races.
