The Yankees scored eight runs and hit five home runs against Brewers left-hander Nestor Cortes in his first start of the season last month.

His childhood friend, catcher J.C. Escarra, made the Yankees’ Opening Day roster, capping a long journey that included playing five seasons in the minors; others in the American Association, the Atlantic League and in Puerto Rico, Mexico and the Dominican Republic; and even working as an Uber driver and substitute teacher.

Nestor Cortes had to spent four days sitting around and waiting to redeem himself. And on the fifth day, that's exactly what the Milwaukee Brewers southpaw did. Cortes threw six shutout innings as the Brewers held off the Cincinnati Reds,
