Russian-American ballerina Ksenia Karelina, who has been wrongfully detained in Russia for more than a year, has been released and is on her way back to the United States.

Karelina was arrested in the Ural Mountains city of Yekaterinburg in February 2024 and convicted of treason on charges stemming from a donation of about $52 to a charity aiding Ukraine.

The 34-year-old US-Russian citizen was accused of treason over a £40 donation to a charity that provides aid to Ukraine after being arrested while visiting family in Russia last year.

The former ballerina confirmed in an interview with French publication Paris Match published Wednesday, April 9 that she and the Rolling Stones frontman are engaged. "We've been engaged two or three years," Hamrick, 37, told the publication, per a translation from French.
