Skygazers will be treated to dueling meteor showers converging as the Alpha Capricornids and the Southern Delta Aquarrids both reach peak activity.

Two meteor showers will peak simultaneously Tuesday night into Wednesday, giving stargazers a celestial double feature. The Alpha Capricornids and the Southern Delta Aquarids will begin their peak late on July 29 into the early hours of July 30.

The Southern Delta Aquariids are a meteor shower typically active for a few weeks starting from mid-July. The shower travels at a velocity of 25 miles per second, according to the American Meteor Society (AMS) and is best seen by those living further south.
